Hello, I am looking to move to AZ from NorCal. I have been seeing some apartments listed in the Roosevelt Historic District (e.g., around 3rd Ave & Portland) that seem decent and within my price range ($700-$850). I Google mapped it and the houses around there seem nicely landscaped, well taken care of, etc. Is the area as nice as it seems? How is it safety wise for women? Thanks in advance y'all!

It's a nice area. In fact, if I were to move downtown, that's probably exactly where I'd look. I don't think you'd have any major safety concerns.

It's a nice area. It's definitely a downtown area, not as peaceful as a suburban area.

No problems there. Great location if you can afford it.

The Roosevelt Historic District in Downtown Phoenix Arizona - Historic Phoenix Real Estate in the Downtown and Central Neighborhoods of Phoenix Arizona

Check out the above website for more information on Roosevelt, and the other historic districts in & around downtown. Next to Willo, Palmcroft, and Encanto, the Roosevelt district is one of my favorite inner city neighborhoods. Roosevelt Row between Central & 7th Avenues is very artsy. It was one of the revitalized neighborhoods that was going downhill at one time, but the gentrification really helped turn it into a nice urban neighborhood.

Roosevelt has always been my favortie Phoenix historical district. The areas especially around Portland street and 2nd Ave and Roosevelt st and 3rd Ave remind me of the East Coast. I love the community feel yet right in the heart of the city.

If you can find a decent apartment for that price, that's an almost sure bet.

I could list it as one of my favorite historic districts as well. I remember there was time when this area was pretty much deteriorated, and riddled with drugs, crime, and vacated buildings. That was when downtown in general was on the decline. The revitalization efforts really paid off for Roosevelt. Now, it's one of the more attractive & artsy older neighborhoods, and not a place to stay away from.

Go for it. I give it a thumbs up. Having lived in the Bay Area for 15 years myself, and being born and raised here, it's the closest you'll find to an older, established, progressive area in the Phoenix metro area.
