Default Autopsy confirms cyanide as cause in Marin's death

A former Wall Street trader who collapsed in court after being found guilty of arson and later died committed suicide by taking cyanide, according to an autopsy released Friday.

The Maricopa County medical examiner's office toxicology tests showed that 53-year-old Michael Marin had the poison in his system. The report also noted an apparent suicide note emailed by Martin shortly before his death and cyanide found in his car afterward

You could see him put something in his mouth in court. I suspected cyanide.

What a coward. I'm not going to prison for the crime I commited, so I'll just kill myself. Moderator cut: crude Instead, he tries to pull a fast one, gets caught, then punches out before it's time to pay the piper. I have NO sympathy for this guy (for his family, yes), he should have pulled the trigger before the trial and saved the tax payers some money...

I don't understand this. Wouldn't he have been examined before the sentencing for drugs, weapons, hazardous objects, etc.? How did he get into the courtroom with cyanide? Was he in jail prior to this incident? Or just out in the community, wandering around? In my opinion, it was a stupid decision. He just committed arson, he didn't kill anyone. He still could have had a life, after his jail term. Dumb dumb dumb.

Is suicide EVER smart? (please note - IMHO there is a huge difference between suicide and euthanasia / dying with dignity).

He was facing 20 + years.

Also, I believe he was out on bail during the trial - they would not have found any pills on him

He was out on bail, and probably would have remained so pending sentencing. He would not have been searched when he came to court that day, but only put through the metal detectors.

It's pretty pointless to comment on someone's decision to commit suicide, as "stupid" or whatever. It might have been difficult for someone like him to picture being in prison for 20 + years, much less think about what life would be like after that. He had his reasons, whether we agree with them or not really doesn't matter.

It was a news story at the time. Philosophical discussions about suicide are for a general forum.
