I saw online that the Vee Quiva Casino on the Gila River Reservation is expanding to include a hotel. Construction started in June and the new casino-hotel should open in Spring 2013. Interesting that they're adding on to property that's basically in the middle of nowhere.

At minimum the tribe needs to work with the city of Phoenix to improve access. They should

1. widen 51st Ave to four lanes south of Baseline
2. extend Pecos Road to 51st Avenue (and make it so if and when the South Mountain Fwy goes through it will be easier to construct it)

Once they do that, the tribe can run shuttles between Vee Quiva and Wild Horse Pass, that would be awesome.

Apparently the tribe is also constructing a shopping center just north of the Wild Horse Pass Hotel and Casino. There is also planned development for the 40th St and Pecos intersection, regardless of what happens to Loop 202 in this area.

On the web I have also seen a group wanting to develop a good chunk of land south of Pecos between I-10 and the 17th Ave alignment. This may or may not be related to a proposal to build Loop 202 South Mountain on the reservation, running about 1/2 mile south of Pecos.

Hmm, this may or may not have anything to do with running the Loop 202 thru South Mountain?!!? If I recall correctly, one proposal has been to build this on Indian land but the tribal leaders have been "reluctant". I don't suppose any of this might just possibly signal a change in their thinking?
