My wife, kids, and I just moved to the Surprise area about a month and a half ago. I am a photographer and have been looking for places to take portraits, toddler, senior, and engagement pictures but I havent really found much. Any places that you guys recommend? I work the west valley over to scottsdale and wickenburg. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Off the top of my head, I would say the Japanese Friendship Garden in downtown Phoenix or maybe the fountain in Fountain Hills.

How about the White Tank Mountain, Cave Creek or Lake Pleasant Regional Parks? They are nature-scenic. I'm thinking one of the zoos, or Castles & Coaster's Mini Golf course for toddler pics. What kind of places are you thinking of?

I checked out White Tank Mountain park, that place was nice. I just want a good variety of places to offer to clients. I am open to anything!

Well, if you liked White Tank, the other parks I mentioned are similar (except at Lake Pleasant you can find some spots with water in the background). Castles & Coasters is a cheap amusement park near Metro Center. I know mini golf doesn't sound like an exciting place but it really is a great place for photo ops with all the flowers, trees, and props. You might also want to check out some of the more expensive golf courses or resorts - they might have some nice grounds available. The towns of Carefree/Cave creek have some interesting geography and old-west architecture that may or may not fit your needs. Someone else mentioned the Japanese Friendship Garden - it's a bit out of your way (close to downtown) but I can't really think of any other "flowery" parks in the north Valley off the top of my head.

Rancho Manana golf course in Cave Creek has some beautiful grounds before entering the golf course.

Desert Botancial Gardens
Boyce Thompson Arboretum
CityScape Park
Lost Dutchman (far from you) on the way has a great old minetown which would be fun to shoot at
World Wildlife Zoo -- haven't been but I'm sure has some great stuff?

For toddler pictures, the water feature and the giant rabbit statues in downtown Tempe (just a little north of the northwest corner of Mill and University. The greenbelt in Scottsdale has some spots, too.

Kingswood park in Surprise seems to be a popular spot for photographs and weddings.

Believe it or not, but we used to live in The Springs, which is a Lake community in Chandler. The entrance is quite lovely with large rocks and small waterfalls. The signage is placed in a way that it doesn't interfere with the rocks, so it would stay out of the photos. It's not a gated community, so getting photos with the Lake in the background was easy.

We would see 1-3 wedding parties out there every week.

The various parks in Verrado out in Buckeye seem to be popular for photography.
