How about South Tempe? The commute to the Mayo would be bad but not horrible. 101/Elliot, 101/McClintock, and 101/Ray all offer nice neighborhoods.

I located about 8 properties meeting your criteria in a really nice planned community called The Islands in Gilbert. It's a lake community, family oriented, and is situated not far from Hwy 101 to take you to Tempe, and about equidistant to the new Banner Gateway Hospital in Gilbert.
That could be a viable option for you. It would be about a 20 minute drive to the hospital, going the opposite direction from the commute traffic. And perhaps 20 to 30 minutes depending on exactly where your job is located in Tempe.
There is a lot of information available on schools and other facilities in the valley that I can point you to.

Unless I missed something (like her not working at Mayo after all) there is no way in hell that it is 20 minutes from Gilbert to Mayo. I can barely get from Scottsdale and Shea to the hospital in that time period. Add on bumper to bumper traffic and rush hour-you may as well add nearly an hour to that time quote. Not sure if that is your geographic area of specialty or what other purpose you could have for sending someone COMPLETELY out of their way (meaning Gilbert is behind BOTH jobs).
To the OP: please rent before you buy. Get to know the area. I recommend somewhere inbetween the locations where you will be working. There are plenty of good neighborhoods and it will cut down on your commute. There is NO REASON WHATSOEVER to live in Gilbert if you will be working in Tempe and North Scottsdale. There are many excellent neighborhoods much closer. Scottsdale and Northeast Phoenix is where you should be looking. Tempe maybe even (I know there are nice areas there, but when I lived there, I never could get over the noise from the flight path of the Sky Harbor Airport traffic-so I wouldn't live in Tempe-but for only that reason.)
There will be (at this point, who are we kidding?) realtors on here that will try to shift you to their neighborhoods-in the East valley and tell you that the commute by the Beeline Highway is no big deal and will be fine. DO NOT BE FOOLED. It is far. It is not a good idea. It is going to take away from family time. It will add to the brown cloud overhead. It will add to your gas bill. When you come to visit, look in the areas between your jobs. You will thank me.

If you live in South Tempe (Where the nice neighborhoods are) you won't have a problem with airport flight path noise. The only time it would be a problem would be north of Southern.

Why would they want to live in South Tempe?

Because it is a nice area close to many things and not a far drive to downtown Phoenix if work is there. Why would you live in North Tempe? The neighborhoods are not as nice and it is crowded.

I guess you weren't reading the original poster's question. I wasn't asking why ANYONE would want to live there, but one spouse will be working in Tempe and the other in North Scottsdale, so I wouldn't want someone to move even further than where they already need to drive was why I asked. Now I know you didn't realize where they had to drive to.

Yes you misssed something. He is working in Tempe, and I was saying that The Islands is about equidistand between where he would work and the Banner Gateway Hospital in Gilbert at Higley and 60.
I didn't mention the Mayo.

woops. I just saw that. I thought that they were set on her work destination being at Mayo. My apologies.
