I have purchased many tickets for the Childrens Museum, Seal Life Aquarium, Heard Museum, Desert Botancial Garden, etc.. on groupon and Deal Chicken. The Heard Museum is fun for kids and there's lots of arts and crafts projects there too..my grandkids (ages 3 and up) and I spend hours there when we go. Jambo Park is nothing fancy but a fun amusement park for kids that age. Also, Encanto Park and Desert Breeze Park have nice playgrounds and inexpensive rides.

The Riparian Preserve in Gilbert is free, and is a fun place to walk around.

The Golfield Ghost Town was voted one of the best places to take kids - I haven't ever been, but I know several "old folks" that always take tourists there.

Freestone Park in Gilbert is another place they'd have fun - there is a train and some miniature carnival rides that are open on the weekends.
