Hey guys,

Male in my mid-twenties here. Moving to the Phoenix area next week and driving down from the Bay Area. I have some familiarity with Phoenix (been there a handful of times) and prefer to live in the East Valley. Tempe or Scottsdale would be great. But open to other cities as long as they're close to the action in Tempe and Scottsdale. As I'm still young and want to socialize and meet people faster etc. Also, this area seems well located for job opportunities.

Ideally, I want a small studio in the $500-$600 range per month. Can push it to $650 at most. Prefer a 6 month lease. I know they're out there as I've seen postings on Craigslist for studios in Chandler well within that range. Also, what about parts of Mesa? Open to apartments there that are safe and within reasonable distance to Scottsdale/Tempe.

So if someone has names of decent, reputable, and safe apt. complexes to check out please help. Or areas (streets, etc) that I should explore.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Probably because most of the people around here don't have experience living in a studio here. Especially since they are pretty much transplants like yourself. Just do your research you will find a lot around ASU but you will have a lot of college kids around you.

I don't know what the rents are here, but the neighborhood is great. The complex looks nice from the outside. You can walk to Mill Avenue.

I'm guessing you are getting so few replies because what you are asking for doesn't exist with any significant numbers. Efficiency apartments are few and far between, especially in the newer are of the East Valley. The older sections on the westside (along 7th avenue) do have some.

Additionally, your price range is probably a little low. For some reason, people seem to believe that Phoenix is a bargain apartment area. It's not (unless you are used to NYC, Chicago, LA, etc.)

If you've seen them on CL, you'll have to check them out CAREFULLY. You might also want to consider a roommate situation in someone's house or larger 2-3 bedroom apartment. The latter should keep you in that budget.

I see. But don't have to live in a studio; just vouch for a complex or specific area that may have studio. Will check out the ASU area.

Looks like a place worth checking out. Exactly what I need for some good leads on my search. Thanks!

I'm willing to bump up my price a little (even go for a 1br) for the short-term for a 6-month rental as I fully expect to get roommates to cut costs once I get established and meet people. I just need to find something quick, doesn't need to be perfect as expect to move into shared housing in 6 months-1 year.

It seems 1BRs are $680 at Salado Springs. This place is down the street and slightly cheaper. It's an older complex.
