JADENSMOM is on a distinguished road
I, personally, like Gilbert. It was rated the 16th best place to live in Money Magazine in 2006. As for safe, it is ranked no 3 in safest cities in Arizona.

I'm not familiar with the other cities you mentioned but I would suggest finding a job first so that you can find a home somewhat close to your jobs. Often times people buy homes in the outskirts because homes are less expensive but then when you consider the price of gas for your commute, you find you're better off paying a bit more for a home to save time and money.

Do you have children? Again, Gilbert has great schools for children.

As for new homes, builders want to get rid of their inventory towards the end of the year; hence, that's when you'll get the best deals. In Gilbert, a new homes' median price is less than a resale.

I am a real estate agent so I watch the trends extensively. One thing I often tell people is that you have to look for a "home", not an investment. Right now is a great time to buy but don't get discouraged if you buy a home now then in several months the home is worth less. The market will bounce back so if you find a home, find one that you can see yourself living in for several years.

I am going to be relocating to phoenix from boston early next year. I was wondering if anyone knows what is the best areas to buy a home in currently? I have read that the baseline area has many "ghetto" areas. I was looking into homes in buckeye, gilbert, goodyear, avondale, glendale. However, I dont know about these cities in terms of safety and whether or not it will be a very far drive if i get a job somewhere in phoenix. The thing is me nor my husband have a job out there yet. However, iam a nurse and hes a teacher so i think it will be easier for us to first find an area we like and then search for jobs in that area since phoenix is so big. But we also dont want to be toooo far from phoenix even if we live in the suburbs and have jobs there bc i have family in the phoenix area.

Can anyone give me their opinion of good areas, good hospitals, good school districts..distance of the cities ive listed to downtown phoenix? Also, if anyone knows of builders that have specials going on right now? And any other advice will be great!

Baseline is not a Baseline area like a city, it stretcheds far far east to far far west.

I would suggest either Gilbert or the Arrowhead Ranch area up in N Glendale.

Arrowhead Ranch to downtown Phoenix about 35-40 minutes depending on what's going on.

Gilbert similar distance. South Tempe may be a good option for you too. The Kyrene school district is pretty good and it's a better commute to downtown.

The only hospital I have ever had a good experience in, in the Valley was the new Gilbert Emergemcy hospital. The both times I've had to use it they were great!

I'm sure every builder in the Valley has great specials right now. Wait a little and you may be able to get an even better deal, they'll want to unload the dead inventory for the end of the year.
