Heading south from Madison you can find good places as far south as Roosevelt and as far east as maybe 19th Ave. (and there are exceptions that are good that are farther west and south) but you need to know what you are looking at and some would be out of your price range.
We just got a glossy mailing from Madison. We do not live in the district. It invites people to a Kindergarten Open House. Quotes from it include "Enrolling in all grade levels!", "Parents from across the valley bring their children to Madison for extraordinary learning opportunities", "Space available for out-of-district families" and "Visit one of our eight schools to register your child today". It then lists the eight schools. Next to one of them, Madison Traditional, there is an asterisk that leads to "wait lists may apply". None of the others have that note.

Default Found a place :)

On my recent home-hunting trip to Phoenix, my wonderful realtor found me a terrific rental house that met my needs, exceeded my expectations, and is in 85013, half a neighborhood away from the Madison school district and a 10-minute drive to work. You all really helped me sort this through, and I just wanted to thank you again for your very helpful replies!
