Do you feel that the summer weather in Arizona is worse then the high 90's and even 100 in humidity? I just can't grasp how much of a difference it will be from a smoldering hot Philly summer to a smoldering hot Arizona summer.

It's hotter than Philly, but doesn't stink as bad, and property taxes are quite a bit lower.

I've lived in both PA and AZ, seemed like you got a break every once in a while with summer temps in PA. In AZ it is non-stop heat from May until September. But the upside is that you can be in cooler temps an hour away in Prescott and even cooler temps two hours away in Flagstaff. Can't really do that in PA.

100 degree temp is much better here than 90 with humidity in the Midwest. Much better, no question about it.

Hot is hot. There's no getting around that fact.

When it's hot and humid, you perspire and feel sticky. When it's hot and dry, your perspiration evaporates so quickly you don't even realize you're perspiring and you feel dry.

One of the biggest differences IMO, is how heavy the air is. When it's very hot and humid, the air feels heavy and when you go outside, you get that "kicked in the chest" feeling. When it's very hot and dry, you feel the heat but that's it. There is none of that "kicked in the chest" heaviness.

Summer is no big deal here. 110 degrees here feels like upper 90's where there is humidity. You can deal with it. July and August we do have humidity here. I would say those are the worst months.

I also lived in PA and in SC before moving to AZ. As much as I hate the summers here, the muggy, humid summers are worse. CheyDee is right about the sticky, heavy air. You sweat constantly, no matter where you are. I used to work graveyard shifts in PA. Most houses do not have central a/c and I had to sleep in our basement with a fan at full blast just to keep from sweating to death.

In Arizona, its definitely hot. Turn your oven to 500 and open it up. That's how it can feel in the Arizona heat. But step into the shade and the edge is off and it becomes tolerable. For me, the worst part about Arizona heat is that it sometimes feels endless. Week after week of 110+ can get to you, or me anyway.

I will take 110 and dry here over 90 degrees with 90%+ humidity in OH any day. I usually go back around the holidays but the one summer I went, I stepped off the plane and could barely breathe it was so humid. You don't realize how disgusting it is until you spend a few summers here. It may be an oven but I'd rather not feel like a fish out of water, lol

as goober suggested, there are two parts to summer in southern Arizona....May and June are the hottest and driest months: low humidity, hot temps, tolerable nights....July and August are our humid months: slightly cooler temps, but humid (for us) conditions....because of the humidity, it rarely gets below 80 at night in those two months....so it's very uncomfortable, AC runs a lot....also, we don't observe daylight savings time, so the sun is up very early and it warms up very quickly.....as said, shade is a lot nicer than sunny areas in the low humidity....

many people love the warm, dry conditions....I think the temps vary a lot more back east in the summer, so there can be nice spells at times back there...out here, it is pretty much always warm/hot....but I'd rather be here in the summer than have to face the humidity back there
