Nah, I don't agree. Many of the people whom you "correct" are from Chicago and are simply giving their opinions on the relative merits of the weather just like this thread. In the year or so I have been on the forum I have never understood your obsession with rising to defend your city, bad-mouthing this state and calling people whose opinions are different than your own doofusses (sp?) and liars and ridiculing their opinions as "smart arse" etc. When I was moderating this forum I was pretty much told that you are allowed to do this, so have at it. Maybe it makes for a more interesting forum.

Are you serious?
I believe it was YOU who said we have 7 month long winters. Seriously, for someone who used to live in Chicago for "20 years", you ought to know better.

Listen, disagree with me all you want, but I dont "disrupt thread after thread" as you suggest I do. Secondly, if some of you want to spew crap about other peoples' weather, you must first scrutinize your own, as its notorious for being the worst summer weather in the USA (along with southern Florida). Thirdly, most WILL rise to defend their hometowns, as do you, so youre not indifferent.
If someone came on the IL boards and started saying that they moved from Phoenix to Chicago to escape (lets go out on a rediculous limb here) Phoenix's 10 months of brutal heat, you wouldnt want to chip in and set the record straight? Im sure most would.
Im on these boards because I happen to love alot about the Valley and enjoy being down there. Since Im on here alot I happen to see all the comments made and then I reply. I dont just hound the AZ boards looking for a fight, as you think I do. Talk all the crap you want about Chicagos cold winters, but just dont spew lies (not you in particular) about weather in other areas of the country, because AZ more than has its fair share of crap.

I edited out the "thread after thread" comment after thinking it over. You quoted it before the change, I guess.
And if I ever cared to defend against every silly or inaccurate comment about Phoenix I saw here, I would wear the skin off my fingertips in a couple days. Most of us, whether we love our town, like our town, or just put up with it (me), have learned to let things go. Sticks and stones, you know.

Actually I said this:

You get about 7 months of cold nasty weather every year.

Do you understand the difference between an opinion that differs from yours and a lie ?

Thats very fair.
But the thing is, why let lies about Phoenix go w/o challenge? If you see something thats a lie about Phoenix I would most definitely contest it (but thats just me).

With that being said, PHX and CHI each possess about 5 months of nice temps, 5 months of bad temps and 2 months of hellish temps.

I didn't want to contribute too much to going off topic because I realize weather is not the topic. I just read so many comments that sounded questionable, so I decided to do some digging to find out the real scoop and then decided to share it. We came pretty close to 6 months didn't we? That turned out not to be much of an exaggeration after all. That really surprised me because it doesn't seem like it. I always tell people we have about 2 months of hellish weather (during Monsoon) but the rest of the year (10 months) is beautiful! This is just my opinion. I find the high humidity with the heat uncomfortable. But the only time we have the high humidity is during Monsoon. I was more uncomfortable in Washington state when I visited last Summer and the temperature was around 80 and the humidity was very high as well (as it usually is high in Washington), it actually felt hotter to me than 110 in Phoenix with low humidity. The humidity makes it stickier and moist.
I've only been in Chicago briefly and I'm sure if I spent any amount of time there I could come up with a lot to like (or maybe even love) about it. I may not be able to enjoy the weather but I have no doubt there would be plenty other things to like. I've heard wonderful things about Chicago! I always do find things to really enjoy about every place I have gone within the states, and in Canada as well. For example, I froze my tushy off in Alaska when I took a cruise there this year, but I saw the most breathtakenly beautiful sights I have ever seen in my life there. I couldn't get enough of it, I can't wait to go back and see more areas. I probably wouldn't want to live there because I prefer more sunshine and less rain, but I sure did love seeing it.
I have only been in Arizona for almost 5 years. My first summer here we were breaking high temperature records and we are doing it again this year (breaking the ones from then). I moved from Washington State so it was a very large change in the weather department. It took me about 6 months to acclimate to the weather. My point is, I couldn't expect you to enjoy a short stay in our state when we are having high or very high temperatures, when it took me 6 months to really start enjoying and appreciating it. Now I feel like I am in heaven, weather wise. When it actually does rain I can really enjoy it, because it is so infrequent. I am in the West Valley, so I don't get the dust storms like they do in the East Valley and I also have never had snow here.
I hope you give us another try some time. Maybe around April or May would be more to your liking, as long as you like sunshine but lower heat. If you don't, I understand, Phoenix is not everybodies cup of tea.
There I go contributing too much. Sigh. Sorry everybody.

Well, if youre serious about that exaggeration, I cant hold that against you, because its your opinion. But if you wanted to go that far lets just take a look at it closely: 7 months of "bad weather" would mean October through April be labeled as "bad" (in your opinion of course). October is nice in Chicago. We just had 3 days of 80 degrees and crystal clear skies. Of course that has changed today and its overcast and in the 50s. November is generally a little cold (50s, 40s and 30s--- 30s in late November). That leaves you with December, January and February, which are our coldest months, where we get all of our snow. March is a rollercoaster, highs can be in the 30s, but is generally 40s, 50s and 60s. April is another rollercoaster, but usually averages 50s, 60s, 70s and some 80s mixed in (my last 4 birthdays in mid-April were in the 70s and 80s). May is lovely, 60s, 70s and 80s.
My point? If the weather is "bad" those 7 months, than that means that the winters that you guys proclaim as "glorious" are no different than our spring weather (October, March and April). therefore we only have 4 months of winter weather, 3 months of cool/mild weather, and 5 months of perfectly nice weather (May, June, July, August, September, and most of October). "7 months of bad weather" here you say? If you really think that, then you must think that most of AZ's months are "bad", unless you really enjoy 100 degrees + as "good".
