I will be in Phoenix on the 20th and am supposed to attend a "dressy" dinner with my boyfriend's boss and several others. I have no idea where we are going...plus I've never been to Arizona. His boss won't say other than dress "dressy." I am a woman over 40. Any suggestions?

Do you know where the dinner is at?

Overall Phoenix is VERY casual compared to a NY, LA, or SF. Without knowing where you're going I would do maybe a shift dress with a fun scarf or black pants, heels, and a fun colored blouse. If it's being described as dressy definitely wear heels or very dressy flats. A nice quality wrap dress in a neutral color is always a really easy way to be dressy but not over the top.

I'm honestly surprised anywhere in Phoenix is being described as "dressy" so that's the most direction I have. I seriously doubt they're looking for a ball gown.

If it's "dressy" but not "black tie", then something you'd wear to a cocktail party. A basic black dress (or the equivalent) dressed up with jewelry and/or a fancy scarf works. Agree on the heels.

Always better to be over-dressed than under-dressed, especially if a boss is involved.

Hmmmmm.... I can think of so many things to say about that statement, none of which are appropriate!
