Like everyone else on here it seems, I'm planning on relocating to Phoenix (from Philly) by the end of this summer. I've searched this forum and have found a lot of great information, but I'm wondering if anyone has any thoughts of the area along Cave Creek Road north of Peoria. Is that considered Sunnyslope or North Mountain. Is it is reasonably safe area? Any info you have would be appreciated! Thanks!

It's not really Sunnyslope, and not North Mountain either, that's 7th St. That said, parts of it are okay, it's kind of uneven in terms of the type of neighborhood as you go north from Peoria Ave. Are you thinking houses or apartments? Depending on where you will be working, there may be other choices to look at.

Its spotty. Some areas above average and some below. You'll just have to look at all your options there in a case by case scenario. Overall within a 3-5 mile radius of that area there will be LOTS of decent options for you to choose from.

I always suggest staying in an extended stay place for a month or 2 when you get here. Budget Suites of America has a North Phoenix location near the 101 and 27th Ave. For about $225 a week you can get a furnished 1 bedroom with a full kitchen (bring your own microwave) pets free, no credit check or lease, move in as soon as you fill out the paperwork and pay, maybe put your big stuff in storage, and get a feel for the different areas. Once you find an area and place you like, you can move out immediately.

That way you aren't tied to a lease and won't be moving into a place with renters remorse, and stuck there for 6 months or more.

Thanks all. I'm going to be headed to Phoenix in a couple weeks for a visit (family lives in Surprise, hence the reason for moving, but don't want to live all the way out there), and hopefully will get a chance to do some more in-depth exploring of areas. I work from home, so I'm not worried about commute time. And I'm not really interested in the cookie-cutter suburbs and don't really have any thoughts one way or the other on the ethnic diversity of the area. I've just been perusing the listings to see what's out there, townhomes and standalone houses, and there were some interesting ones available in that area. But I just didn't see anything specific about the area in my searches of this forum, so I thought I'd ask if anyone was familiar with that area. I'll probably go check it out when I visit.

Good luck on your future move. I'm sure having some family here will help you find an area that is best for you.

How far north of Peoria Avenue? The area around Cave Creek Road & Peoria is north Sunnyslope, and it's not that great of an area. As others have said, it's spotty, but I don't really recommend it. Cave Creek Road is pretty junky through there, mostly industrial, and not a very good selection of residences. It's even pretty spotty north of Cactus. If you're looking for a good neighborhood, I would look further east in the PV area, or west of there in Moon Valley.
