Credit Stephen431!!! for bringing this to our attention but I thought this was worthy of it's own thread and another exciting venue especially considering Phoenix is lacking in the theme park attractions and something this city has needed for a long time. This is indeed very exciting

"The developer and investors behind Odysea in the Desert hope to distinguish it by providing what they say will be North America's largest butterfly pavilion, an aquarium exhibit, a Ripley's Believe It or Not museum and other attractions. The project will add to an emerging entertainment corridor along Loop 101 on the Salt River Reservation that already includes the Talking Stick Resort and Casino, two adjacent golf courses, and the Salt River Fields spring training baseball complex."

The news article dates from September. If there's not anything more current, which there doesn't seem to be on the actual website, I think it may have already gone the way of the waveyard or those other megadevelopments in the area.

Actually, you can see it under construction if you're driving on the 101 North, just after the Indian Bend exit. It looks like it's almost complete.

The butterfly exhibit almost seems near completion so it appears to be completing projects in its noted phases. This doesn't appear to be an amusement park on the scale of Decades Theme Park or Waveyard so it seems to more realistic in its objective. What is nice is if this is completed, and it's successful, that could attract an amusement park nearby. That is typically how they start. One attracts attracts other attractions.

I don't blame Waveyard, it seemed like that project was legitimate but the timing was awful and it arose at the start of the great recession so it was obviously going to be doomed. As the economy improves, we will see another water park plan arise and it wouldn't surprise me if that gets off the ground.

Weird. I was just over there at the casino the other day and didn't see anything. Shows you how observant I am, I guess!

I hope it does well, then. I look forward to seeing what it's like.

The second phase, the largest phase, will start construction in 2014 and will take two years from there to complete so it looks like it will be completed around 2016. This is really exciting.

Again, if this place becomes busy, look for a waterpark to set up nearby

OdySea Aquarium

It looks pretty impressive. Hopefully this is the first of many amusement parks or theme parks in the area. If this is successful, I can see similar projects arising nearby. This is how they start.
