Hello all, so my wife has been a caregiver for roughly 3 years. Her group home just received another client and has mrsa skin disease. Her company then descaled all employees pay down .50 cents an hour, bringing her pay to a whopping $8.50 an hour!. Her employer claims that Her group home is now a non special needs home. She comes home with scratches and bruises almost daily. She does not work with elderly either. I have been putting pressure on her to look for better employment. Am I wrong to ask her of this?

You're not wrong. $8.50 an hour sucks. This is the exact reason why we need a living wage law on the books.

Is it a small privately owned home? Possibly she could try some larger facilities or network for some indy jobs. Is she bonded and licensed?

How does your wife feel about it? Does she want to put the effort forth in finding a more lucrative position?

Maybe the most important question is 'Does your wife have the skills, training, education and experience for a more lucrative position?' If so, then yes, encourage her to explore other opportunities BUT not quit her current job until she has secured another. Then remember to give adequate notice to the soon-to-be ex employer.

Good luck. Your wife does hard, invaluable work that is sadly under appreciated, financially and emotionally.

Hey thanks guys for your advice on this. She does have another place where she will be applying to soon. And yes, she is certified and what not in what she does.
