Hi all,

I'm in Lancaster, CA and the job market here isn't great all. Nor am I feeling terribly secure at my job. My wife was recently advised she'll be losing her customer service job in a couple of months. I'm a Quality Assurance Analyst for a bank dealing with property tax and I also have my A+ for any potential IT jobs.

How is the job market in Phoenix and the surrounding areas? I imagine it has to be better than California. I have family in Mesa already to boot which is willing to help my family here get situated. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

I moved back to Phoenix last August after losing my job up in Idaho. Spent 5 fruitless months looking for work up there, called in every favor, networked like crazy and did not find anything. Some family convinced me to move back here and within 3 weeks had 4 job offers and accepted one from a Fortune 500 company looking to expand their salesforce in Arizona.

For certain professions, I think Phoenix's job market is really perking up.

Thanks grmi66. That's promising. I'm also working on transferring. I would hope I'm of more value to my current company.

Salesforce as in people, they doubled their Arizona employees to a total of two of us.

It really depends on the industry. I've figured out that while I love living here, career-wise it probably isn't a very good place for me to be. I'll probably end up moving to California within a year or so. For a lot of other people it has worked out great, though.

I'd say bad from my experiences here, im looking to relocate to a different area. Also im tired of the heat and just want to leave, the past two years i've had trouble finding work that pays more then minimum wage and offers more then 20 hours. If you consider people with college degree's + experience fighting over that type of work, then I guess i'd say then yes the job market here is great. I'm sure since I just typed that people will chime in here to tell me im stupid or lazy and the job market in Phoenix is fine.

Depends on experience. Traditionally allot of the jobs here have been low wage retail jobs, low wage call center jobs, car dealerships/maintenance, construction housing (which disappeared), Boeing (good pay), Intel (good pay) and some other defense contractors. You can still find really good paying jobs here but you have to match employers degree/experience requirements exactly. They're not really looking to train or give you that entry level experience.

If you're in IT you can get a good paying job. If your're in health care you can get a good paying job here (assuming your a RN or higher).
Other then that, it will be a challenge and you you'll be fighting a large amount of people trying to get that minimum wage call center/retail job (most who have college degree's).

My opinion.
