We have seen several threads over time questioning which service is better for internet. I have always been in the Cox camp, but over the past few weeks have grown frustrated with them over charging me for a 25 mb service which a lot of the time is less than 5 mb. So I made the switch to Century Link to see how it is. I got the 40 mbps service from them and my speedtests all day have been running 37-39! I am blown away to say the least. I was caught in believing that what used to be still is when it comes to the two competitors.

Anyway, new residents setting up service might give serious consideration to CL over Cox if 40 mbps is offered in your neighborhood.

I've been seriously impressed with Century Link. Consistently high speeds. I guess that's because DSL isn't a shared connection, so peak times become irrelevent. It's just fast... all the time.

I'm paying 65 a month for 40 Mbps and landline phone package. I also got a 15 dollar a month discount by ordering it through DirectTV as a bundle. That discount is good for a year. I don't think I have the fixed for 5 year deal so I suppose it will be going up over time. But for now at least it is much cheaper (and faster) than Cox - had phone with Cox too - was. I leased their modem too at 7 bucks a month, but will probably buy it outright ($99) if the service stays good like it is now. The modem has a wireless router built in.

I've been going with cox. I pay roughly $45 a month for 25mbps. It suits me just fine and I have never experienced any slow downs. I've run ping tests and connection tests all the time and I consistently receive good results. I called century link and all they have in my area is the 5mbps. I asked the sales rep over the phone if that's all that's available and they said for my area, non-fiber optic area, that's all they offer. I live in 85015. So for $20 all I would get was 5mbps. The rep kept saying that that's more than enough for a household that will have more than one PC playing online games at the same time. All call bs. I need more than that. Now, if they could deliver, say 10mbps for $20, I may consider switching.

I'm not sure what 40/20 means. All I know is its basically DSL. Century link wanted me to purchase a new modem for its DSL requirements. I had just bought a new cable modem a few months back, plus a good router meant for online gaming and movie streaming.

I am with Cox, but my parents switched to Century Link a couple of months ago and they're happy with them. They have the same bundle as Cox, which is high-speed internet, cable TV and home telephone and they're paying about $40 less.

I'm paying about $150 (including taxes) for the bundled package, I only have their expanded cable TV, which doesn't include any of the on-demand programs, DVR and all the other stuff, I don't watch TV that much so I don't need it, I am happy with Cox, I only wish they'd lower their rates by about $15.

It's 40/5. They had 40/20 where I live but it was about 5 bucks more IIRC and I don't really need any upload speed. I live in Estrella (out in far SW valley). Usually we don't get the latest of anything. The CL tech said we were "lucky" here because they wanted to run fiber to Buckeye and ran it through here. I am getting exactly what they said I would. Watched a couple Netflix and it was so nice not to have it pause even once to catch up, something that was rare with Cox.
