Default Relocating immediately to Phoenix. Help!!!

All of these posts have me a little nervous. We are in New Orleans now and will be moving to the Phoenix area w/in the next month or two. We just learned this two days ago so I'm researching like crazy.

I have a 4 year old and an almost 2 year old and we will live there for 5 years or so. It's very important to me that the schools (esp. elementary) are very good. My husband will work in the southern part of the city (85040 I believe is the zip). It's off of East Southern Ave.

Anyway...I'm leaning towards Gilbert but please point me in the right direction here. Location, neighborhoods, buying vs. renting.....all that jazz.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKKKKKK!

Default moving from NOLA also

I'm moving to Phoenix from New Orleans next month - small world. I can't offer much personal insight since I'm not there yet, but posted below are the resources I used. I think you will probably get a lot of replies wanting to know what your price range is in order for them to help you. Most people recommend renting first b/c the area is so large it's hard to determine where you would want to be.

Distances from downtown map

Lots of PHX info including a relocation section.
Phoenix Arizona - City of Phoenix - Arizona Phoenix

We used Russ Lyon to search for houses, I’m sure there are many companies that list all the mls houses, but we used that one and we also used one of their agents to buy our house.

The zip code map was also really helpful.

I think we'll be looking for a home around $350K or so if that helps determine area.

Have you determined how much the move will cost you? We will be getting paid for the relocation but would like to save as much as it as possible to use towards our home.

Well, I live in Chandler, 85226 area, and it's a great kid friendly place. Plenty of shopping and restaurant. Kyrene school district are suppose to be good. I think it's a close location to 85040. About a 15in. commute.

Gilbert would be a long commute compared to Ahwatukee and/or Chandler, both of which I would consider every bit equal to Gilbert in schools, safety and quality of life.
