. Came back 4 hours later, found that the bug bomb did not rid me of the flies. but did find a dead cricket!!! found some old mop water in an old mop bucket, rank water. Tons of flies in the water. Put bucket in the Garage when we bought new self squeezing mop. Emptied it out, bleached it and tossed it. That was the mop that cleaned the area around the cat box. Tossed mop too. Bleached entire kitchen, and bathroom. STaying in super 8 waiting for that beachy bug bomb odor clears for some fresh air.

This is peak weather for flies. Hopefully the mop bucket had something to do with attracting them.

Oh - I just remembered another option. When I bought my home, the previous owner had smoked for years. I told the realtor they needed to get rid of the smell as a condition of closing. My Realtor brought in a local company that did Ozone Shock Treatment. Can't remember the name. If you search online you can find some options. You don't need to buy the equipment, there are companies that put that in your living room and crank it up to the highest level. You need to take all houseplants and animals out of the house for 24 hours and open up all cabinets and closet doors.

My home smelled wonderful after that treatment and I've never smelled the smoke since. The added benefit, which is why I'm bringing this up, is that it also killed all the critters in the house. I found dead flies, dead termites (!), dead cockroaches, you name it. The previous owner also had pets and the pet smells were gone as well. Just another option to check out. If there IS a nest of some sort in the house, that will get rid of it. If the flies are feeding on food or a dead mouse carcass hidden in the attic, that may be another matter.

I know, right? I just keep bringing up all the creepy possibilities. Then again, we ARE talking about a critter that feeds on dead stuff.

There's a franchise company called Servpro,I sub-contract from a local one here in Ma. They'll bring in a machine called an ozonator which will zap the odor molecules from the air and it will kill any critters living in your home too.

Water Damage, Fire Damage, Mold Restoration Services | Servpro Industries, Inc.

Thanks Gixxer! That's the company we used. I was having a brain freeze. I kept thinking Servco - but that's a car loan company in Hawaii... so brain wouldn't make the leap... Servpro. Good guys. Did a wonderful job. You do have to air out the house a bit to get the ozone smell out, but that's a piece of cake compared to the other problems.

I'm thinking there must be a dead mouse or something in between the walls or the attick. As most people said, sealing the house completely, so nothing can get it, will do the trick. And then you can do the Ozone shock thing-sounds great. A two prong approach. I had horrible "house fly" issues when I lived in an aparment in the back, adjacent to the dumpsters in the ally so I know how annoying they are. BTW, they are out in the Spring, Summer and Fall. Winter is really the only time they go away. Even in the dead of summer they are flying around like nothing. I remember thinking they would burn up or melt when they landed on hot surfaces but they seem to be immune to those too. They are absolutely horrible so I feel for you.

I know some of the horse people use a mixture and spray it around and it keeps the flies down. It's half water and half yellow pine sol. Flies don't like the smell.
They spray it on the patio and areas they don't want flies.
Might be worth a try.

Please, Foreverking . . . don't take this personally, however, I have always read and heard that flies WANT and NEED Animal Poop, preferably Horse or Bovine, to survive.

By any chance are there stables or pastures nearby?

Nah, turned out to be nasty mop water I think. I fogged the hell out of the place to get rid of any new flies, but the food source was in the Garage. I could not smell it, unit I was right on top of it.
