Where is zip 85023? My employer has an office there, and I'm trying to figure out where it is and what towns near it would be good for a commute to work if I request a transfer there. Thanks

I like this site:

85023 :: Boundary Map and Geodata for the ZIP Code (ZCTA) 85023 near Phoenix, Arizona, U.S.A. :: MapTechnica

As for commuting, it may not be necessary, unless you feel a need to tithe the house of Saud with your paycheck. There are many nice neighborhoods right there in that zip or very close by.

This is a North Phoenix neighborhood with plenty of amenities. Housing can be anywhere from "inexpensive" to "average people need not apply". You could live there and if you chose the right locale you could walk to most places like bank, shopping and dining. Bus service is available on major streets, but like most places in Phoenix you probably will want a car to truly enjoy living there.

It borders I-17, Union Hills Rd, Central Ave on the east and Thunderbird Rd on the south. based on your other posts if you work in that area, an apartment near 3rd to 7th Street and Bell Rd would be great. LOTS of shopping and places to patronize there.

The area is fine. If you choose to transfer here, that area would suit you well.

I believe HACESOL wants an idea from people who live here what stores and amentities are in the areas he asks about. Just a feel of how comfortable an area would be to live in. Having never been to a city, and seeing the zip code boundaries doesn't tell you that.

I seem to remember that you are unable to drive. Some of this area has fairly decent bus service - along 7th Avenue, Bell Rd., and 19th Ave. for example. There are many apt complexes along those streets, so finding housing on the bus line should be easier than many other areas of Phoenix.

However, you were looking for an area where everything you needed was within a 2-4 block range (grocery stores, library, drug stores, etc.) You might get lucky and have SOME of those necessities within the 2-4 block range, but not all. Especially the library. You'd be on the bus a lot.

And no, this is not an area that is currently covered by light rail.

Again, Phoenix is not an easy city to live without a car, especially if you have to commute to a job using the bus. It's like hell itself waiting for the bus during the summer. But at least in this area that you've targeted, there ARE accessible buses (not sure if they run on Sundays, btw).

This is great info, but in HACESOL's other threads he mentioned he cannot drive due to an issue with his foot.
