It's amazing that Phoenix keeps getting chance after chance. Atlanta wasn't given chance after chance, despite better season attendance.

Frankly, it's partially because of Phoenix being given chance after chance that Atlanta no longer has a team. Thanks a lot, Phoenix.

And with each one, it was an issue with ownership and the league's financial stability, in general, not support from the fans. The fans were robbed of a team each time due to mismanagement.

It's sad really that Glendale is being forced to double down. Pro teams from the big 4 sports do this all the time and it isn't fair to taxpayers. Pols who sign original deals often don't have a clue as to the future ramifications and the burden they are placing on taxpayers.
These always look like private profit at public debt schemes.

That's the entire point.

Professional sports shouldn't be taxpayer-funded because they are for-profit organizations, private business, not public services.

Schools, police, healthcare, mass transit, and fire-emergency services are public services and need taxpayer support.

I just find it appalling how so many people, even many self-described conservatives, seem to have no problem with Glendale taxpayers paying for the NHL Coyotes and their arena but they are the first ones to call for big cuts in public education and other services on a local, state, or federal level.

Their priorities must be in the toilet along with their heads.

Private companies at every level receive tax payer assistance, some of it amounts to shake downs, while other partnerships are very successful. My point was more about the inability of some/most pols to negotiate good deals because they are ill-equipped to do so. Most people would just like their elected reps to stop wasting money.

BTW, many organizations are non profits and taxpayers should be mad! The NFL, NHL and PGA for example.

It sounds like Council member Alvarez is the only one at the City with any brains. This deal is terrible for the city and the taxpayers, it is basically legalized blackmail. Selling city hall and giving the proceeds to the NHL and team owners is insane. I love the hypocrisy of the many so called "fiscal conservatives" on this issue.

I'm just curious; what happens to the city-owned arena and Westgate if they move? More jobs lost. That's 41+ game nights and foot traffic being lost to Westgate. They're crazy if they think they can replace that with scattered concert dates and a few other events. Westgate is already a ghost town most weekday nights when there's nothing going on next door.
