Agree the scenery is better in Ahwatukee. In your price range you could find something nice in Pointe South Mountain subdivision and be just down the road from the airport (a short drive up 48th St). South Tempe also has some really nice neighborhoods that would be in your range and would still have Kyrene schools. I'm thinking areas along Elliott, Warner, and Ray Roads (Warner Ranch, Alisanos, Ray Ranch, etc.). You still wouldn't be too far from the airport there either.

Another area you might want to consider is Arcadia. Lots of character and good schools there, too. That is if you don't mind an older home (pre-70's).

Good point. From Ahwatukee, or even locations just east of Ahwatukee, one has the option of driving to the airport up 48th Street, and not even use the freeway system. For days when there's an accident on I-10 this would be a good alternative.
