It seems it's time to repeat warnings and suggestions about living around Coyotes. They're around and obviously can clear most backyard fences.

Elizabeth Kawakami let her three Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppies play in the backyard while she unpacked boxes last week in her new Sun City home.

She and her friend, Duncan Old, discovered Camelot in the corner of her backyard as three coyotes jumped over her 7-foot rock fence.

The Coyotes injured her dog badly enough to cost her $8000 in vet bills so far.
There are some tips and suggestions for dealing with Coyotes contained in the article.

“Nobody told me that coyotes were around here, because if I knew that I would have never moved here to begin with,” Kawakami said.

She said that after just moving from Mesa. Does Mesa not have coyotes?! It's tragic that her dog was injured but she sounds very clueless.

Sun City has a lot of coyotes wandering around because the lack of backyard walls makes it easy for them to move through the developments. There is a lot of grass and bunnies that feed on it as well and that also attracts them. In Mesa, everything is block walls so the coyotes have to travel the streets which they tend to avoid.

7 foot fence is nothing to a yote. If it has a cross beam or something to push off of it can do a 12 foot fence like a cat.

rock fence whatever that is. Anyway that doesn't change the fact that much of Sun City is wide open spaces that coyotes can move through easily. So I think they are more common there than in most of Mesa. I often see them in the greenbelts when we go to grandmas place.

Even block fences do not stop them. I watched one jump up on the neighbor's wall and walk it looking for her little dog. They really have no fear here so you must watch your pets closely.

I live in Sun City. I haven't seen a coyote in months. I don't know where ponderosa sees them wandering around.

Event Tempe has Coyote they follow the canal from south mountain into the neighborhoods. We ran into one while walking the dog at a little neighborhood park near southern and hardy. They even posted signs don't feed the coyotes.
