I have only been in the area for 5 years and was very interested in seeing photos of the metro area from 20's-80's to see how small the city was. Does anybody have anymore historic photos to post? And of the old light rail system?

Anyhow, yes very good food, for generations. We also liked Mr.s VanZant's Ponchos' Patio, it was on Central Ave.
My uncle was principal of Cortez back then, Mr. Wilson. That's when Alice Cooper went there.
They put up a fence all around the school, that was just unheard of!
I went to Washington High, class of '65 and I'm still alive!
In the 70's I used to go out with a girl named Pam Menhorn who went there.

Leif Swanson has a neat site with old pictures of Phoenix and other valley areas from 1900's through the 1970's. Click on the 1940's section and you'll see a couple of pics of the Phoenix trolleys. The link is below.

It was the jungle park. Next to the jungle park pet shop. Right down the street from Sureway Market

I never grew up in Phoenix, but we visited every spring because my big brother lived there. I remember how we'd drive down Black Canyon Hwy and roll our windows down as we entered the city so we could smell the fabulous orange blossom fragrance that greeted us. It was a long drive to visit--all the way from Racine, WI. The orange blossoms and fresh air was like manna from heaven. I've been visiting since I was a toddler, and have sadly seen the huge growth and change. It makes me sad. You're right, it's nothing like it used to be.

I found a bandscan from March 1982, that includes KOOL (94.5) just going Oldies, KUPD, KDKB 93.3, KZZP as a great top 40 station, KOY 550 (Adult Contemporary), and KOPA at 98.7 (now KPKX).

Here is the aircheck:

That was a good aircheck. It was very interesting. I remember when Phoenix had the Giants minor league baseball team, and no Diamondbacks.

The Phoenix Coyotes are o.k., but I really miss going to the old Roadrunner games in the VMC. Remember the guys in the hillybilly hats and overalls up in the nosebleed seats that would get up and dance periodically to a certain song. They would put the spotlight on them and the place would go nuts with cheering and clapping?
