Anyone have any more information on the history of the place would be appreciated. Thanks.
I know Don Jose was there in 1969 but not how long before that. At the time there were only 2 IHOP's left, one on Central and one on Bethany Home.

I have the 1950 Emerson graduating class photo and also the mimeographed yearbook with all the predictions and what the 8th graders 'willed' to the 7th graders.

There is nothing on the internet about Whittier or Emerson but Kenilworth has a huge number of photos and memories on Facebook as a group site. I hear they even have a museum in the basement.

Town & Country had a great forerunner of the modern mall food court; my dad worked there briefly in 1970 when the construction business was down for a few months. Some of the best ham sandwiches around, though nowhere near as good as Mag's.
I still drop in occasionally to browse at Bookstar - even in these days where I buy most everything I read on Amazon, I still find it strangely relaxing to browse in bookstores. There is a Yogurtology in Town and Country, where you can fill your cup with Oatmeal Cookie Dough frozen yogurt and Red Velvet Cake frozen yogurt, and they charge you by the weight. After eating like that, I usually have to go to the LA Fitness in the mall to burn off some of the calories... There's a fair decent Cajun restaurant and of course, Trader Joe's.

But enough of the present, let's get back to the past. There are planters there now which used to be fountains where water would bubble down the descending ponds back in the 1960s and 1970s. With the semi-open mall design and shaded walkways, I always liked walking through there as a kid, it didn't feel like any of the other malls.

Good article about the Cine Capri with a LOT of memories in the comments section from people who remember it - even a year-by-year listing of ALL the movies that showed there, by date! I had forgotten there was a Caf' Casino there,as well.

There is a great site devoted to old movie theaters, www.cinematreasures.org. They list one closed theater in Peoria (Peoria Theater, aka Paramount Theater) which sounds like it could be the one you describe, at 8307 W. Washington St. (near Grand):

Thanks for the great site link! It was neat to read about the Cine Capri (saw Star Wars in 1977 and Empire Strikes Back in 1980 there) as well as the Kachina in Scottsdale.
