Channel 8 (PBS) celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. In the old days, Channel 3 was ABC, 10 was CBS, 12 was NBC. Later, the ABC affiliation moved to Channel 15 and 3 became a very popular independent. Also, CBS went to 5 (which had been an independent) and FOX affiliated with Channel 10.

Laveen has a DW? What a surprise. When I lived there the only business that I remember was the old country store on 27th and Dobbins...old Richfield Boron pumps and a hitching post. I googled it and was shocked at the change.

I remember some kind of store at 51st Ave & Dobbins, I think on the SE corner, with Laveen School to the east of it?

Are you thinking of the giant Russ Lyon Realty billboard?
Help me out here folks -on E. Camelback - was there for years (still is)?
It would change once in awhile but always R Lyon.

[quote=roosevelt;18091143]Nothing down, lots of foreclosures, what were people thinking?

An old Staggs-Bilt ad touting Casa Del Sol in Mesa. $79 a month! From Arizona Days and Ways, 1962. Back then I'm guessing Gilbert and Main was "way out".

I was thinking the same thing about the Cine Capri, but I guess I was wrong too. Saw "Star Wars" there in 1978 (Star Wars ran there for more than a year) and waited in line there to see "The Empire Strikes Back" in 1980. The last time I was there, is when they released the updated "Star Wars" trilogy.
