The building mentioned earlier is marked with a red dot.

Notice the "overpass" walkway on 7th Street. I had completely forgotten about that until I saw this pic today.

I'll post the whole image next. Wait until you see this gem. Oh yeah.

ps - how blown away are we that Roosevelt is seeing something for the first (now second) time?
Hey, I remember the old Churchill Mansion before it was torn down and the Igloo stand across 7th Street, not to mention the P-38 fighter parked at Phoenix Tech during the war. Which war? Ha. I used to cut through Phoenix Union and the stadium on my way to Webster's Hobby shop on Van Buren. I went to McKinley grammar school before they closed it in 1945.

I remember sitting in the Central Dryv Inn and seeing those plates fall all over the place, I think they were asking people to put metal scrap on their curbs to be picked up for the war effort. You would get sick today thinking about all the toys that were melted down.

I note in your picture that old St. Joseph Hospital is a vacant lot. I had my appendix taken out there.

Where in the picture was the old St. Joe's?
The Thomas Rd location is my "alma mater".

St. Joe was on the vacant lot in the above picture bounded by Fillmore, 5th St., Polk, 4th Street. Actually the 2nd location in Phoenix, then moved up to Thomas.

This postcard has always been of interest because I have never seen a red '49 Merc before. The Bert's store is where the old Penney's was located before they built the new modern store on Washington and 2nd Street. They put in a parking garage at the back with a spiral ramp going up, it was so tight, people wouldn't use it. The first escalators in Phoenix also, it was great, there was an unobstructed smooth metal divider between the up and down escalators and every kid in Phoenix would slide down it; they finally wised up and installed short vertical barriers all the way down.

Brandmeier's last gig in Phoenix before he moved away was at the Malarkey's nightclub grand opening about 1983. He had a rock band at the time and put on quite a show. I could respect him because he was a DJ that knew about music because he had a band. He eventually was let go later on and ended up owing money even though he was earning a million a year for a while.

J. Brandmeier had to know he made it big when his songs were part of the Dr. Demento rotation. Wasn't the Doctor part of Sunday nights on KUPD in the late 70s/early 80s? Or was he on KDKB?

Im trying to recall the name of the male radio personality that was on KTAR AM 620 during the day. He provided the news in the late 70's and 80's. Surely one of the moderators here remembers. Anyone? The other guy was on Arizona Country KNIX FM during the mornign and was very popular. Man I am bad with names today ...LOL... Anyone?

Default downtown Phoenix c.1974

As promised.
Im not exactly sure when the Civic Plaza and Symphony Hall were built (Roosevelt?) but I think this is around 74-75. St Marys school is still there too.

Whats that park like area with the huge trees just below the old Republic & Gazette complex?
