Default Jack Geare

I miss so much from those days, but Phoenix is just too big. I moved to Carson City, Nevada -- still a western town but much smaller, and a lot cooler!!!

I recall Jack Geare well. His family owned the old Geare Family Dairy, which was close to the Central Avenue Dairy. These dairies were near 7th Avenue and West Osborn Road and Park Central. Jack played a mean organ in church and was one of the most open-minded and innovative people I knew. He knew how to live life to the fullest by enjoying every little thing to the utmost. Somehow, we lost all that. Thanks for posting, Vicki.

A web search showed the 1959 team was the Giants, the San Francisco PCL affiliate. Last place that year, no Gordon on the roster, so maybe a different Phoenix team? Of note is that Willie McCovey was on the roster and led the team with a .372 BA.

In the sixties/seventies my neighbor across the street was Bill McKechnie, president of the PCL. Free Giants passes.

Concerning Sunnyslope, here is a neat article with some photos, especially the Pix Theater which later was the AAA appliance store and then a clothing store.

I remember pattys. As a kid my parents drove by it often. Always wanted to go in, but never did.

Heck - we used to soak the sheets with the hose on purpose, throw them on a cheap chaise-lounge and sleep under the stars in the backyard - with no fence - when my sis and I were 8-9 years old.

Hans still plays all over. GCC hired him for some outdoor event back in 2005 when I was there. He was great as always, but the lame pin-head students had no clue what-so-ever who this guy was (is) and so they spent the evening running their mouths trying to shout over the music instead of relishing in groove man! College dorks!

They harshed my mellow.

Patti Ann's / 35th Ave & Camelback. Best catfish in town. Its still there I think.
It was already a relic when I was in HS at Alhambra in the early '70s

A 7th grade friend of mine slept in his back yard, which was on a corner with no fence. One night he was awakened by a horrible noise and bright lights; he jumped up and ran straight into a post and knocked himself out. Turns out the monster was not a flying saucer but the street sweeper.
