From what I can find on the web, The Palms opened on Friday, 23Mar45 - you might want to start your search around that date.

Funny - seems that Harry Nace was The Palms theater manager - same person built The Kachina.

Short blurb from the 24Mar45 Boxoffice, concerning the Palms grand opening.

Re The Palms:

Ask, and ye shall receive...

Theater Catalog 1946-1947

Not a real high-quality scan, but it's all I've been able to find so far...

Sincere apologies for the "serial" postings, but I found this blog while digging for info on The Palms...

Phoenix 101

Interesting read. He has several more blog entries along the same lines here.

Edit: This blog has a definite political "bend". Just a friendly heads-up...

I'm pretty sure I saw one of the "Airport" movie sequels there in the 1970s.

That is the one I've been looking for. Lots of memories. I downloaded the 3 pages. I note the candy counter was not installed at first, the other theaters did the same thing; I always thought the concession stands looked odd because they were just stuck against some wall; I'm thinking of the Rialto, Orpheum, Fox and Palms.

Per a comment on the Cinema Treasures page for The Palms, they didn't allow food or drink when they first opened - so no concession stand. Seems they did add it later.

Can't imagine a movie without a Coke and a bucket of popcorn...

Does anyone remember the name of the hamburger shack that was across the street from Tempe High in '69-70? Everyone hung out there for lunch.

I went to St. Mary's kindergarden in 1949-50 under Sister Paulette with Marsha Ashley. I have not seen her since kindergarden. I remember her because she was my first girlfriend ever. I do not know for a fact that she knew anything about the torrid relationship.
I often have wondered what happened to Marsha.
This missing person matter is clearly a case for Roosevelt.
