OK, that is the same building all right; the last time I was in the area all the glass blocks had been shot out; of course, it was right across the street from Duppa Villa. Hard to believe the palm trees only grew a few feet in 70 years.

Love seeing posts like these, where we can learn a bit of the history of the obviously older buildings we see around town. Those palm trees didn't grow much, did they?

Excellent picture of 5th Ave. in Scottsdale during its heyday. I see Trader Vic's, Wax Museum and Craftsman Court. I know this area very well. The hot spot was from Scottsdale Road to Stetson where Trader Vic is; all the other streets were dead, except people would park there and walk to 5th Ave., avoiding all the other shops on the way.

I was there years ago on Christmas Day looking for a distributor for my 1968 Jeep CJ. Christmas Day!!!!!! Can you believe it? I think it had a generic name like Automotive Sales or something along those lines.

I remember there was a shop there on Fifth Avenue that I would often stop at when I was a kid. I think it was called Serendipity. It's probably been gone for 25 years.

I remember Serendipity, but remember it being south of Indian School, maybe Main or 1st Street. It was something of a head shop, with love beads, incense, posters, lava lamps and black lights, and the like. It was in the very early 70s when I went there. Wasn't there also a similar place called The Curiosity Shoppe, maybe I'm thinking of that instead.

Is the clock tower on Stetson between 5th and 6th still there? I don't remember it the last time I was down there. It was something of a landmark in the 70s.
