Also on Halloween if you went to Frenchy's pick-up window while trick-or-treating, they would give out little bags of french fries. I loved their long skinny fries!
What a great memory!
I loved Frenchy's! The only woman I remember working there ('73-'77) I thought was his wife...she worked the counter. Could this have been your grandmother? As teens/early 20's we all knew better than to "act up" in there. She ran a tight ship. There was a glass wall between her and the cook (Frenchy?) and she would continually holler at him...I always figured the glass soundproofed him. Great food...my first fried shrimp and clams.

WW, here's a list of classic bus stations around the southwest, by city. The one in the photo might be the Greyhound station at 29 E. Jefferson Street in Phoenix, which was in existence as of 1941 (the date of the photo). I'm guessing the photo was taken in the Valley instead of Tucson, based on the Tempe High marching band in the photo, but I could be wrong.

CLASSIC BUS STATIONS

EDIT: Duh! I just noticed the caption says it was taken in Phoenix, so yeah, probably definitely there...

Just found this site on the history of South Mountain Park - old maps, newspaper articles, etc.

South Mountain History

Check out this 1970s aerial photo of South Mountain on the website:

Or this vintage Reg Manning cartoon of Hieroglyphic Trail:

Anything you have would be appreciated. One thing I'm trying to verify are the dates the Star Theater changed to Travelodge Theater in the Round and then to Celebrity Theater. Do you happen to know? I'm pretty sure of the estimate in time but nothing more accurate.
Yes I too have a list of many that I've attended with dates etc. -Lets share.

The Who performed Aug 17 1968 @ Phx Muni Stadium.
(although this ticket stub with Quicksilver indicates a show at the Celebrity Theater)
They came back to play VMC on October 6, 1976 -I was there for that one. Keith Moon died on September 7, 1978 in London

Default Savoy Brown, John Baldry & Fleetwood Mac 3/6/72 - Celebrity Theater

I was soooo disappointed that I walked out...no seating other than a very small bleacher set up...just people standing around...not much of a concert if I remember correctly.

Fleetwood Mac were almost unknown -they came on first. Bob Welch I believe and of course no Stevie at that point.

I also saw Uriah Heep at the new Civic Plaza when it was actually still unfinished. Horrible acoustics and seating. we had to stand for the whole thing, left early. Crap.
This was 10/14/72 .

Ten Years After/ Robin Trower / King Crimson 6/9/74 @ Big Surf

Robin wore his trademark knee-high leather moccasin boots thingies. cool man.
TYA brought down the house with "Im Going Home" but Trower really was the show-stopper.
Bridge of Sighs had recently been released and the rest is history.

Dozens of concerts at Celebrity Theatre, Big Surf, Legend City a massive one at Phoenix Coloseum with Big Brother, Poco, Blind Faith and more. Also anyone remember Sanctuary? A good place to hang out and of course if you were flipping out on acid . They had a place downtown I believe around 3rd st. and one in Tempe.

Morgan
I believe the Beans went on to become the Tubes right? White Punks on Dope!
