when was the Earl's/Markgraf's fire?.....was it at Indian School and Scotts. Rd.?
As expected, the McD's been through a few changes. On the north side of Indian School there was a Jack In The Box, old-style, with two or three small tables. One did not "dine in" at Jack In The Box, their claim was how fast their drive-through was, and their emphasis was on the drive-in. If you didn't have a car, you were out of luck, although one of my 8th grade classmates tested the theory of a bicycle on the drive-through.

In the early 70s there was a construction project around 81st and Indian School, where a worker was buried by a trench cave-in or was in the wrong place during earth-moving operations. Anyone remember the specifics?

I remember, in the early 70's riding my bike up to Baskin and Robbins, for a scoop, ALONE !! I can't imagine letting my child ride alone -anywhere nowadays!
I was also a member of Romper Room--I was the little girl with long, blonde hair if anyone watched it! I also drove my parent's car to the store MANY times without my license (age 14-15), with their approval, as there wasn't much traffic and cops were really nice back then lol..Life was good back then!!

I imagine they were for the workers at the aluminum plant. Across the Street on 35th was the short lived Arizona Theater. Across on Van Buren was the Aero Theater with the airplane wing sticking out of the ground.
In my grade school years (thru 1951) I lived at 28th Ave and Jefferson.. I spent a lot of movie time at Aero Theater and I had a lot of friends who lived in Alzona Park. As I recall there was a small skating rink across from the theater but I spent my life skating at Open Air Rink on Baseline and 28th Avenue.

Central rodeo parade 1958. Phoenix doesn't do much of anything anymore like they used to. No Christmas decorations up and down Central either. Is that Madison Ford? Bill Williams Mountain Men?

This isn't much of an image but it shows the huge old sign with the wagon wheel.

That picture was taken about the time my sister moved to Cheery Lynn Rd. off 44th St., just around the corner from there. I remember watching Thomas Mall being built when we went to visit.
