Turns out she'd been told to loosen up more (she was a pre-law at ASU, and while that should not matter, when sober she fit the stereotype) so she fortified herself with a few shots. After an hour it was evident that the date was over, so I said we should leave and that I would get her home safely; she got combative, and then threw up on the sidewalk on Mill. Got her home, but she was too embarrassed afterwards to try again.

Spectacular billboard for Los Arcos; didn't help though, the mall was never a success. One reason is that it was built like a fort, no outside windows and no names on the smaller shops. Very uninviting.

Surprising given its location, although the proximity of Fashion Square did hurt it. What I noticed was how dark it was inside. It seemed almost dungeon-like. I may be confusing it with another mall, but was there a movie theater downstairs (adding to the dismal feel)?

It was gloomy, kind of Tuscan decoration. The subterranean movie theater was one I never went down to. In short, never let an architect or decorator design a building that has to earn a profit for the stores. The original shopping center out on 59th Avenue and Northern is another example of a fort like building.

I always liked it. It never seemed to be as crowded as other malls (probably part of the problem...) but it always seemed very calm. I went there to relax a lot in college. I liked the design.

The center court as depicted WAS nice and airy but it contrasted with the darker corridors. The arches ("Arcos") were a nice touch. I remember it never really being busy except around the holidays, although it was nice and cool inside during the summer, maybe made to feel that way by the relative darkness.

What was the name of the anchor store on the east side of the mall? The Broadway?

The Broadway was on the east end, and Sears was on the southwest end. Los Arcos was a kinda big deal at first, but soon got caught in the middle once Fiesta Mall opened and Fashion Square (and Camelview Plaza) expanded.

Wasn't there a Red Robin on the west end?

There was, northwest side. If I am thinking of the same area, at one time there was another establishment as well, Rob Roy.
