No, FedMart was founded by Sol Price, who later started Price Club. I don't think there's a corporate connection between FedMart and KMart.

I found no connection between the two (Fedmart and K-Mart), however, according to Wikipedia, Fedmart business model came into being through an agreement between Mr Price and the owners of Fedco, a company that dealt with federal employees (notably postal workers).
I remember my dad stating that Fedmart was geared towards federal employees (one in Scottsdale across from a Motorola).
Long story short, Fedmart went down after selling a portion to some German investors and was liquidated, with many shops being taken over by Target.

I'm thinking there was also a FedMart on the NW corner of Broadway and McLintock in Tempe or am I imagining things?

There may have been a Fedmart there.
I was knee-high to a fire plug at the time, but do remember the Fedmart on East McDowell Rd.

My 1963 phone book tells me that FedMart was 3010 Grand Ave, GovWay was 3839 W. Indian School. For that year no other locations were listed.

That's what I remember. We moved here in '66. The Kmart opened at 43rd Ave on Indian School. My memory is fuzzy but I think Govway didn't last too much longer. I vaguely remember FedMart being open in the mid to late '70s.

I have a 1927 photo, which I cannot post because the photo does not belong to me, that shows Nielsen Radio Equipment in the front of the building and the bowling alley entrance, a big arrow sign with 'Bowling,' on the side of the building off Pierce St. There are two large towers on the roof with the call letters KFCB. This was listed at 621 north Central. Apparently this was the only bowling alley in Phoenix in those days and was listed as the Nielsen Bowling Alley.
I have honestly been lurking through the forum trying to get caught up... I'm in the low 500's right now and still a ways to go but I was wondering...

Roosevelt, are you sure that the photo is from 1927? From what I have read, didn't the Gold Spot Bowling Alley open up in 1935? So was it just a continuing of ownership from the Nielsen Bowling Alley?

Also, how do you think I would be able to view said photo? I am willing to jump through hoops if I need to!
