I vaguely remember a sign on top of the Scotts/Camelback Chinese restaurant as Ken Fong's China Village (or Inn, as noted above?) - or something similar....does that ring any gongs?.....

coincidentally, there is a Chinese restaurant on the site today! (PF Chang's)

Now that you mention it, that name did sound a faint gong. Looking around, I found an obituary from last year for a Ken Fong who was, among other things, "in the restaurant business in Scottsdale" in the past. I think we have a winner.

not much if any of the movie was shot at a Thunderbird Field, it was shot at Falcon Field. The 2 large wooden hangars are still there, until a few years ago, the pool that the studio built for cadets was still in use.
Falcon Field in WWII was known as British Phoenix,

here is what it looked like during WWII

And here are the same Hangars today

Looks like you're right, at least the opening scenes appear to be Thunderbird. Thunderbird also had and still has a pool on the same footprint. Wonder if the studio built that one too? Shame they removed the one at Falcon, would have been nice if they just filled it for a garden and left a plaque.

Paradise Motors later became Madison Chevrolet.

Wish I had a 1963 phone book! Or any phone directory or yellow pages for the Valley. I look all the time in eBay and other sources, but old ones are hard to find.

A local used car dealer here advertises that they're "right on the corner, right on the price". While that expression has probably been used a lot throughout the US, I remember in the 60s a Valley Dodge dealer saying the same thing... Pegler's Dodge City comes to mind, but I'm not sure. Anyone else remember that one? I've searched this thread with the search tool, no match.

"Right on the price, right on the corner" was the slogan for Westward Pontiac, which for a long time was located at the northeast corner of 7th Street and Highland.

The announcer didn't pronounce the 'ro' in Chevrolet.
