The last food place going north from Superfun was a Taco Bell.
Going the other way, after Orange Julius, I believe there was a Hot Dog on a Stick, but I could be wrong.

Default Pictures of Glendale, AZ needed for a book on the city

I've seen some great pictures posted here (especially by Westside Willie) and I'm wondering if they would be available for my use in my book? You must have copyright to the picture and you in turn must give me the right to use the picture or pictures in my book. I'll give you photo credit if the picture is used.
I especially like the shot at 47th and Glendale of the car dealership. my email is yensid57@yahoo.com.
Thanks

You've all made me more homesick than I already was. I was born at Good Sam in Phoenix, AZ in 1955, lived in AZ most of my life. Lived a few years in California when I was young, a year in Texas when newly married (VN era on a military base), grew up mostly in Scottsdale, lived 27 yrs in Pinetop AZ until I moved back to valley in 1995. By then Phoenix had changed so much I struggled in surviving the relocation. Currently I'm in New York with a friend where I had to come because Arizona takes too long to process US government disability income, and is short on aid for disabled in the interim. I've never before been so homesick in my life as I am right now. The pictures on this have stirred up a so many memories, especially Legend City that I use to live only 2 blocks from as a teen. Soon I'll be home, and never leaving Arizona again!

Here is Good Sam before they tore it down; all gone now. Maternity was straight in off 10th Street sidewalk. Smaller town then.

When I first moved to Phoenix, the 101 was still being built, I used to go ride around on it on my skateboard/bike. One day we went out and hit some golf balls, they would go for almost a mile before they stopped.

You should have been here in the 40's/50's -

Very few homes with grass

No swimming pools - we swam in the canals

Most roads were dirt (or gravel)

I don't think there were any golf courses

Grass landing strip at Sky Harbor

No A/C or Evap Cooling

I wasn't born until the 80's.

Even though I have only lived here for like 15 years, I have seen Phoenix really grow and change, especially the north side of town expanding out.

Most images are under the creative commons license, but I would contact the owner.

Obviously internet searches are easiest. But if you have a specific target location, check out the historical yearbooks in the high school libraries -- they usually have many local photos. North of Thomas? That'd be North High, Central High, Camelback High, Sunnyslope, Washington, Alhambra, West High (since that's now a tech school, there may not be a convenient source of old yearbooks)
