I lurk on this bored often because I have friends that live in Phoenix. I always hear the good things about Phoenix like affordability. What are things you don't like about it?

*Lack of a vibrant downtown area (although it is improving)
*Lack of quality public transportation (although it is improving)
*Lack of density (or you could say "presence of urban sprawl")
*Lack of diversity (I.e. the Metro area is very White/Hispanic concentrated, with a sprinkling of Blacks and Natives)
*Too right wing (politically speaking)
*There are not enough bike lanes in the city.
*People drive long distances to commute to work here; therefore a large gas spike could be crippling.

Now, having said all that; I do like Phoenix as a city, and for that reason I continue to live here. These are just the areas that could use improving in my opinion. I guess your thread just brought out my inner hater LOL

Lol, many of WSPHXPELON's list are positives in my book.

My dislikes:

1. Dust
2. High winds
3. Lack of tree's

I agree with the above the lack of diversity is one thing I don't like. It would be nice to see some more fine "sistahs" walking around Chandler Fashion Center haha (sorry I love black women and biracial women like Alicia Keys man they're so hot). Another thing I don't like is the mediocre downtown and loooong summers. Other than that there really isn't a whole lot not to like about Phoenix it's a clean, scenic, and overall great city and metro area to live in.

The only real negative, IMO, is the lack of diversity in the job market. It's a great place to live, but not such a great place to work. It's odd that this is the 5th biggest city in the US, but the businesses here don't really reflect that. I don't think I've ever seen so many people working jobs they're overqualified for, because that's mostly what's available.

There are too many dust storms, terrible public transportation (worse than LA's), the downtown is terrible and nobody wants to open shops there, the city itself is too spread out, and it isn't pretty looking. There is a reason why many middle class people (primarily whites) go to the outskirt cities like Mesa and Scottsdale.

Only one complaint-- too hot! Love everything else and I recognize if it were cooler our house would cost several hundred thousand more (thinking CA).
