I was mowing my grass and the large cap to irrigation system must have gotten caught on lawnmower, it is gone now. When I turn water on, it is like a water fountain. How do I fix this and where would I go for a replacement part?

Any home improvement place like lowes, home depot, ace hardware, etc will have the replacement part. You just need to swap out the broken piece with a new one. you may have to dig it out some to be able to unscrew the old head and screw in the new one. Take the old head with you once you get it out and someone at the store can help you find the right replacement and riser that may need to be replaced as well.

My landscape guy will fix them for me for $20 so I let him do it so I don't have to mess with getting parts and digging the yard in this heat.

Parts for things like that are often stocked at Home Depot. I can't picture exactly what you are talking about, but they've got all kinds of parts for sprinkler systems. If the pipe it attaches to is not damaged, then a new one should just go right back on. (I assume you've shut off the water supply to the system ). This doesn't sound complicated enough to call for a repair person, (edited as LBTRS and I were posting simultaneously) but LBTRS makes some good points in why it might be worth it.

Dig down around that pipe sticking out, it's actually called a riser, unscrew it from the main PVC pipe and take it to a any hardware type store and get an exact replacement. he head part do you know if it was full circle, half circle or ??. ook at the others nearby for reference. You need to know that to replace it for the same original coverage. You may be able to get an adjustable head, ask the hardware dealer.
Any place like below can help you:
Home Depot
Lowe's
Ace Hardware
Tru Value
Menards
Etal
