Looks like Dos Gringos, Gradys, Mables, and Firehouse are some popular spots from PAcker fans. Anywhere else? Among the ones mentioned, which ones were the best?

I always found it strange that we have bars supporting a sports franchise 2000 miles away. When I first visited Mabel Murphys some years ago, it seemed weird.

I know we have more people who are not native born than anywhere else in the country, but it still confuses me.

I'm confused by why you're confused. Most people take their sports enthusiasms with them when they move. Other people had no team to support where they grew up, so they adopted a team that they liked, usually because of one particular star player that attracted them. It's true for almost every sport and it's a worldwide phenomenon, not something only found in Arizona.

Fact is, it's pleasant to watch your favorite team with compadres who share your enthusiasms. I watched the Steelers all alone this morning and I wish I had gone to a bar to have someone to to commiserate with. Because it was REALLY DEPRESSING! I shouldn't have had to face it alone.

I have a friend in Chicago who's a Steelers fan. Every time he goes to Las Vegas he books a room at a particular hotel in Summerlin, not because it's convenient, but because it houses the local Steelers bar. Even if it's not football season, he patronizes that hotel to reward them for welcoming fans of his team.

Go to New York City some time during the World Cup. There are bars devoted to the football teams of countries you need a recent atlas to have heard of. You can walk down the sidewalk and hear the patrons screaming in an unrecognizable language a block away. These bars often fly flags of the country they support out on the sidewalk so people can find them easily. Here's another example of the fact that this pack mentality is not an American custom. I spent some time on the Greek island of Paros one year and there was a bar near my cottage that carried German football and Italian basketball. It was packed with fans every night there was a game.

So, trust me, it's not weird at all. Like goes with like.

Stadium Club in Chandler is where Arizona Pack goes to watch the game. They have a page on Facebook as well.
