Paradise Valley's school district is actually Scottsdale Unified School District.

If you are talking about pv unified district the schools are very good. But it depends on what school it is.

I was wondering the same thing, only, in mn, if the district can't provide the right program, they can go to another district or school that will.........is AZ like that too??

There is open enrollment, but that doesn't mean a school will honor it.
Scottsdale Unified and PV Unified are two separate districts (unless they merged for some reason while I was living in TX). When I first got my degree, I thought Peoria was the best and PV was running a close second. Back then, Peoria had the luxury of having the same superintendent for over 20 years. He retired after 25 years. All of the schools had a type of consistency that facilitated teaching and learning. Now everyone is stuck reinventing the wheel. The first piece of legislation that got the whole cycle of reinventing the wheel every few weeks was The National Defense Education Act of 1958. The disaster that we call public education is a negative consequence of the cold war. |

No it's not and only one school (Pinnacle HS) is any good. I'd avoid that district if possible. Scottsdale has much better schools all around.

What? I was trying to tell her that the PV district is NOT part of the Town of PV. She was saying that she's in that district because she's near PV, which is not true. Paradise Valley has Scottsdale schools.

If you can be more detailed about where your new home is you will probably get better info. We live in N. PHX (40th and Greenway) and it is called PV, why I have no idea. PV high school is a couple blocks from the house and I wouldn't reccomend it. Horizon is farther but thats where our kids will be going. Can't say anything good about Shadow Mountain either but you may be talking elementary schools so this will be of no help. You can check the test scores with the dept of education.

I'd say that out of the PV SCHOOL DISTRICT, Horizon and Pinnacle are her best bets. Someone mentioned North Canyon, that's north of Union Hills isn't it? My kids did the IB Program at Desert Mountain, they excelled. However, although a hundred or so kids enroll in their freshman year, usually only a handful actually graduate with an IB Diploma. But it is great that the school offers IB classes since they are geared toward a higher skill level and discussion level. |
