I live in Chandler, and South Mountain is only half an hour away. It's a great spot to just drive up to the summit etc.

But are there other mountains nearby where you can drive up to the top like that? I fancy a change

It's not as close, as long, or as high, but there's a small loop partially up Camelback off 56th St. https://maps.google.com/maps?q=E+Val...hoenix+AZ&z=17

I forgot the exact route but you can partially drive up Piestewa Peak and it's a decent view. I think you take Northern or either Glendale/Lincoln Dr just past the 51. Again not sure but it's something along those lines.

You drive up to the parking area (no view) and then hike up the mountain trail for the views overlooking the city, quite spectacular, especially around sunset.
