How friendly are the people in metro Phoenix on a scale of 1-10?

10 being the friendliest and 1 being the rudest.

I've only been there a few times. Never more than 3 days visiting.

I was thinking of maybe spending a few months in Phoenix this winter.

polite = city size

1 = NJ,PA, NYC
2 = West(NJ,PA)
3 = Unsure
5/6 = all midwest states
7/8 = all west coast states
9/10 = all small towns

Phoenix isn't polite, but they are sure friendly. Even while they're stabbing you in the back, they're still smiling. It's great. Look at Jodi Arias as an example.

One thing that I always bring back with me to Canada is me is how friendly the people of Phoenix are. I purchased a vacation home in San Tan Valley in 2011, within being there a week I was invited to my neighbors home for a party. We exchanged emails and he lets me know if my home is okay when I'm away. Every time I go for a walk, I always get greeted will with a hello and even from the young people. Service is great, never had a bad experience at a restaurant or store. This is coming from someone that our province says "Friendly Manitoba" on our license plates.
People from Phoenix should be proud!!!

One thing I don't really like here is the forced small talk at groceries stores and I do not like being asked if I need carry out service. I understand they probably have to reiterate the same crap to all customers, gets annoying though.

There are rude people and there are friendly people just like anywhere else. Most people I have come across here are friendly, not overwhelmingly so. I have heard people complain that many here are superficial in their friendliness, but I have neither the time nor energy to decipher whether they're being authentic or not. If you're from OC, you should feel very at home here.

Grew up here but moved to Kansas City a few years ago and I was taken aback at how much nicer everyone was there. Had to move back because of job change . IMO Phoenix, much like Los Angeles, is also severely lacking in moral fiber.

I'd give it a 7 on your poll. Phoenix is a city made up of prople from all over the US and from different countries. There are different cultures, customs, habits that you will come across to and may need to adapt to them. Like most large cities you'll have a mishmash of ideas, politics, and opinions to just about everything.
I have found in most of our travels that the friendliest people are in the mid-west and then it continues onward toward the western states.

Yes, when I think of the typical Phoenician, Jodi Arias is the first person who pops into my mind.

Jacob, I'm originally from OC, but have lived in several other places over the years. I'd say that Phoenix's friendliness is on par with OC. As a matter of fact, I'd say that Phoenix overall is just a hotter version of OC except without Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm, the ocean, or the traffic. Everyone I've met here has been very friendly, right up until they got behind the wheel of their car, then, just like OC, they get a little testy if you're not driving the way they think you should be.

So all in all, we're pretty "typically" friendly. Now, Canadians, they're friendly!

Ok, now go away and leave us alone!

You do realize San Tan Valley is some weird burb nearly built in the middle of no where? I would still call it apart of Phoenix, but still.

You do realize that is the standard practice at most grocers right? Excluding the state of Arizona.
