We had dish for about 10 years recently we tried Directv I'm going to back to dish. Couple of problems I found I don't like the way Directv channel's change. When surfing though channels it changes the top description but leaves the video playing on the station you had last on. If you stop for a second it starts playing that one. Dish would change the actual station as you moved thought he channels. I know it seem trivial but It annoy's me sometimes. I like to see the channel as I move up and down. 2nd problem when I connected my genie box in my bedroom up to our Philips tv the HDMI didn't work. After searching online I found the problem is with the HDCP (HD copy protection). When I called DTV they claimed my TV wasn't compatible with HDCP which I stated it clearly is because I play blu-ray movies and my blu-ray player also uses the same HDCP. Online forum search revealed a bug in the box after pressing DTV 2nd level support they admitted to a bug they are working on it. As a work around I had to use composite video cables lower analogue connection. While this is fine for 720p it won't work with any 1080p PPV movies. Dish network box worked fine with that tv they don't seem to have the issues.

3rd issue I don't like when you hit a channel you don't pay for it makes you hang on that channel I guess so you will read how to add that channel to your line up. I have to hit cancel or exit to get by that message.

We will NEVER use Direct TV again! ever! I will watch everything on Hulu and Netflix on my computer ... we have AppleTV which will play a LOT of stuff on the TV screen as long as we have internet and we have blazing fast DSL here in PHX.

DirecTV lies, changes rates EVEN within the CONTRACT. they are such liars, I kid you not. I fought for 1.75 years and finally cancelled a couple months before end of contract. They will not tell the truth.

We KNEW that we would move in ONE YEAR. I talked extensively about that BEFORE we installed DirectTV ... sure enough a year came and they wanted all sorts of charges. etc. I waited for a month before calling them back to talk again and we still did not get satisfaction. THEN they raised the rates the FIRST YEAR and the SECOND as well, ALMOST DOUBLE what we initially agreed to.

Thought we were stuck because we are rural. We did not want to put up with the abuse.

And let's not talk about their drivers who park at the corner to work on the box and completely block the road. we called the supervisors many times: "Call the police and have them get a ticket ... we don't care what our drivers do."

I kid you not. Nevah again !
