Hi, I was hoping someone would have any info on gated communities near SCNM (Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine & Health Sciences) 140 E. Broadway Rd., Tempe, AZ 85282. All the reviews I've read for the apt. gated communities are quite scary to say the least. I just want a safe and quiet place to live and study. Any help would be greatly appreciated! =) Thank You

I live in an apartment about a mile west of there, and drive past the SCNM all the time. There are a LOT of apartments on Broadway Rd between McClintock and Price which are close by SCNM-- but most of them are not so great-- 1970s-1980s era construction. The place I live in can be very noisy at times (I had some real A-holes living below me who fortunately just moved out) and a lot of punks roaming around, especially on Fri and Sat nights. As for gated communities, I don't believe any of the apartments in the immediate vicinity are gated. There's a nice one called San Marbeya just west of McClintock, more recent construction, gated, but it's very expensive and a lot of rich, spoiled ASU kids who throw big parties live there. Honestly, there isn't any apartment complex in the North/central part of Tempe or nearby western Mesa (which is even worse) that I would label as "excellent."

The area around that college is not the best to live...unless you're a college student. Very loud and and lots of college suckers.....meaning those that live off college students...beggers. You'll want to go south of US60 a few miles to find some nice areas.

If you have some cash, like around 55-75k, you can get a 1 or 2 br coop in South Scottsdale, which would be about 15 min from Tempe. They are cheap but you can't rent them out and you can't get loans on them. There is a pool and your monthly assessments cover utilities I think. They are mostly populated by snowbirds so it can be empty in the summer. It's a safe area.

I was thinking about one of those, back in the day. |

I only know of a couple. Seriously, they are retirement complexes. The nice thing is that they are kept up very nicely. The monthly fee is higher as it includes utilities I believe.

I can't remember the names of them but I know they are older communities and were very well kept. I think one of them is called The (something) house.
