Just had a leak from a toilet, and it was wet to begin with, but then worse when the repair let loose more water. It's a tiny space with just a toilet, but carpeted. We've lifted up the carpet and padding, and have a fan in there, but I was wondering about someone "extracting" the moisture.

I called my carpet cleaner, but he doesn't do that kind of thing. He suggested someone specializing n wter damage - but there is no damage, and those guys tend to be very expensive. I just want to ensure that it dries before there's a problem with mold.

Any suggestions? I'm in the central Scottsdale area, if that helps.

Been there, done that.

You can rent an extraction machine from one of those generalized u-rent-it places. You could probably Google or Yelp one up near you. Or, call your closest Home Depot that rents equipment (they don't all do it) they probably have them too. You might also be able to rent one of the fans that is made especially for that sort of thing, too.

Probably a good time to remove the carpet from the bathroom altogether. I'll never understand that.

Thanks, obsever53, but do-it-yourself isn't an option. And I don't want to call some place like HD at random. There's a huge variation in competence, and, frankly, I've been very disappointed by them in recent years.

I'm hoping that there might be some carpet guy who, you know, just sucks out the water with some version of an aquatic vacuum-cleaner.

Well, that would be another option. It would not cost a lot to put tile down.

Well, if DIY is not an option, then you are going to have to call one of those extraction places, or rent the machine and find a handyman to do it for you. The places I was talking about, includng HD, don't do the work for you, they just rent you the machine.

I guess you could call a carpet cleaning place and see, but they generally don't have the water extraction machines.

Or, as DetroitN8V suggests, just take the carpet out and start shopping for tile.

You may be able to find a carpet cleaning company that actually steam cleans to do it. I used to work for Stanley Steemer has a dump line and actually pulls the moisture out of the rug while they vaccuum/clean. They generally have a $99 minimum. They would probably do it. If you're looking for a cheaper option I'd also recommend Rite-way carpet cleaning.

I'd buy a wet/dry shop vac and have at it. Get most of it up, then open the windows and turn the fan on.

If you read upthread, the OP got that suggestion already, and said DIY was not an option.

You're gonna end up with mold. Put your money towards getting new tile put in that bathroom. Eventually, you'll end up ripping up the carpet AFTER paying to get it dried out.
