I have had no problem with our builder as of yet. We are buying a Richmond American home in Surprise Farms, in the City of Surprise. (Currently Arizona's Safest city.)
I do have a problem with the Design Center. The builder gave us a $10,000 incentive to spend at the design center. We told them that we only want to spend that amount and no more. If we had our way we would want the money to help reduce the cost of the home. We chose things that we wanted and continued to ask if we were approaching our limit. The woman said that she would let us know how much we were up to when we were done. Turns out that we were $14,000 over our incentive amount, and the very first thing that we chose took us over the incentive amount. As far as I can tell spending hours in a design center picking out things that I am not going to buy was a waste of time. We ended cutting everything accept for the tile floor that we wanted. The remainder is things that I can do on my own. We can paint, install the fixtures that we want cheeper from Home Depot. You do get to pick out everything for the home though. Many things are included, and upgrades are up to you. If I were to do it differently, I would bring a book of everything I want in the house with a diagram of the home and the square footage of the home, and a calculator. I would have known in a few minutes if I were over the amount and signed off on the basic stuff from the beginning. Sure would have saved a lot of time. I would like to also mention there great idea for helping you spend money on there cable or satelight wiring for the home. Our model has one outler in the Master bedroom. If you want the home wired you need to pay $1,400 or so to wire a 4 bedroom home with a drop point in the living room. There again I am sure that I can do the place a lot cheeper and more custom than the builder.
