All of Scottsdale is safe.

I note that you are currently in NYC. Do plan on getting a car before you move or immediately upon arrival. Public transport is minimal.

Maybe, but the OP asked which was the SAFEST, pretty decent question. I'm thinking maybe one of the places in 100 Hills or Silverleaf would fit that bill I doubt the home invasion rate is high there

the SAFEST area?.....probably here:

Scottsdale Police Department
8401 E. Indian School Road

but, if unable to live there, any area is prone to crime....you need to take the normal precautions I presume you already take where you are now....no area is safe from crime as is evidenced in the murder last week of a resident at Colonia Miramonte, a gated community well within the wealthiest zipcode in Arizona (85253)...neighborhood watch programs, awareness of surroundings, lighting, trimmed hedges, non-standard coming-and-going patterns are among the many things you can do to be safe in your home....

this might help, too

Scottsdale is safe, except for BMW's dangerously changing lanes at 85 mph, rich kids on lots of drugs being rich kids on lots of drugs, and all the painkiller abuse and plastic surgery. Live near Old Town and enjoy it, it's pretty tame. All and all, it's a peaceful, pleasant place with some really wealthy people sprinkled in.

We've lived near Old Town/Scottsdale for 6+ years. There is very little crime compared to some of the surrounding neighborhoods in Phoenix and Tempe. The closer to the downtown bars - the closer to noise and mischievous property crimes.

In our experience - the Scottsdale police (and the other city departments) are very quick to respond to calls or complaints. Scottsdale's livelihood depends heavily on tourism dollars. Crime is very bad for business.

As other posters have mentioned - traffic and do-or-die drivers are the biggest threat to public safety. Five to six months of the year, Scottsdale is inundated with tourist and snowbird drivers. Scottsdale is much like a large college town when the students leave - the locals come out to play.
