Default Desert Hills

I am possibly relocating from Canada, moving to the Desert Hills area, to have some land for 2 horses, pool, etc. Will be working in the 101/17 area - any advice from locals regarding high schools, crime, standard of living, etc.? Also, what about dirt biking in the area?

That is a beautiful area. I think the High School for that area is probably Sandra Day O'Connor but I may be wrong. If it is, I haven't really heard anything bad about that school. I would avoid Barry Goldwater High School, though I am sure that is not the high school for Desert Hills. I believe that the crime in Desert Hills is low, it is growing fast out there and don't know if it will affect the crime rate. As far as dirt bike riding, I know that it is done out there. However, you may want to get away from the houses so you don't make your neighbors mad. There are a lot of riders that go on the west side of I-17 and Carefree Hwy. Also if you go further west on Carefree Hwy. there are always people riding out there. Hope this helps.

I recently did a ride along with one of the Sheriff's Deputies that patrols the New River/ Desert Hills area. He tells me that there is a high percentage of criminals on probation that live in that area and they also have a lot of burglary, wife beating, and juvenile misdemeanor calls.
