Hi,
I will be moving to Phoenix next month, my employer will be moving my cars from east coast to Phoenix. I was thinking about changing my car. I am confused about following options,
1. Buy car here on east coast from private owner register it here and then transfer to Phoenix.
2. Buy car from private owner in Phoenix.

Will I save tax money by choosing one of the options above or it will not make any difference ?. Please share your opinions. I read on the forum that there's no sales tax on cars bought from private owner in Phoenix.

Thank you,
Dan

Dan,
You will not have to pay sale tax even if you buy the car from private owners outside of AZ.

No tax on sale through private owner in Arizona. I'd rather buy a used car in Phoenix where it hasn't been exposed to all the road salt from the east coast.

True. But the AZ, the sun takes a beating on the plastic and paint. So it depends on the age and to some degree the color (as well as if a garage was used). More often than not, I'll take an AZ car. With that said, newer cars don't have the rustout problems as they did years ago.

Yeah, you have a point. I garage my cars so I've not had those problems but could imagine the sun would take a toll if kept out all the time.

On the other hand, paint and plastic issues from the sun are easier to notice and evaluate then hidden issues from road salt would be.

We just went through that with our son.....he decided to buy here and drive it to Arizona starting this week and will license and do title transfer once in town.

He was able to get a temp Arizona plate so he shouldn't have any issue driving out there.

The result is about a $600 saving by waiting and doing this in Arizona.....he though it was cool...haven't even arrived and is already money ahead...lol
