I am familiar with AAA. When my hubby went to call Progressive for towing he was told FIFTEEN MILES was the limit.

So we have cancelled that waste-of-time.

We are in New River, and my hubby drives to Sedona and Flagstaff on occasion so what we really need is towing for up to 100 Miles.

Would anyone be able to recommend an alternative to AAA -or- tell us if AAA is a good way to go in your opinion ~

Thank you !!!

We have State Farm. Auto, home, & life. Towing coverage included; along with a rental car stipend.

I don't have a recent bill on hand but I can tell you the cost is negligible and the service is awesome.

The rental car thing is a reimbursement deal....but I've had a couple of tows and NEVER laid out a dime for those.

Accident or breakdown.

I'm trying to remember what we pay....I think it's around $8 per month.

YMMV.

Good question, IceCat . . .

I've had AAA for years and whenever I think about shopping around I find they are the best and worth every penny. I have the "Plus" account with the increased towing range as well as more tows allowed and I believe it runs about $75 a year.

When stranded on the side of the road . . . a AAA Membership is definitely Peace of Mind.

I had it through my insurance at one point but found it limited. They also treated it as an insurance claim when we did use it. Said it would affect my rates if we used it too often.

Canceled that and got AAA Plus about five years ago and like it much better. I use the AAA office for lots of things.

I have a workmate that likes getting his Roadside Assistance from USAA Auto Insurance. I also have USAA auto insurance and find it affordable with good claims processing.

You are eligible to join USAA if someone in your famiily served in the military. I have AAA Premier but I will take a look at the USAA roadside assistance at renewal time.

I once had my transmission locked up on me 100 miles from home previous owner never changed the fluid. AAA 100 mile tow got me all the way home. I was towing a trailer they had it towed as well to my house. I would never have anything else other then AAA. Insurance companies contract out at a low rate tow truck drivers take hours to come for you. My Brother had safeco towing they left him on the side of I-10 for 3 hours waiting after his Bronco electric fuel pump went out on him.

I have State Farm as well with emergency road service. Have never had a problem or waited more than an hour for service and no extra charges. It also is not considered a "claim" if I use it. It costs $3.70 per month per vehicle for us.

The nice thing about AAA Plus is that it's not tied to the vehicle. You can call for assistance if you are stranded in someone else's car.

I'm a HUGE fan of USAA, but this is the single time in 25+ years they let me down. My fault for not reading the policy, but I didn't understand the limited mileage allowed for towing. At the time, we lived in far east mesa (Ellsworth and Brown) and there was not a single auto repair shop we trusted within USAA's distance limitation.

I called AAA, renewed my old membership, and after a 24 hour waiting period, they sent a tow truck, which took the car to our regular mechanic in south Scottsdale.

Observer53 makes a GREAT point, too. (As usual)

Luckily, we had two cars.
